Local Students Receive Awards at Bright Ideas

Bismarck, ND—Winners were announced yesterday at the Marketplace for Kids Bright Ideas Showcase and Contest held Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in conjunction with Co-op Day at the ND State Fair in Minot.  Participants came from across the state to display their inventions and business ideas to judges, parents, and fair goers.  The winners are as follows:

4^th Grade Winners

3^rd place – The Hockey Tree – Lindsey Larson – Minot, ND

2^nd place – The Bag Binder – Hudson Roness – Minot, ND

1^st place – Animal Attack Trading Card Game – Ian Ridenhour – Bismarck, ND

5^th Grade Winners

3^rd place – The Container of Non-Soggy Bread – Shayleigh Jade O’Hanlon – Turtle Lake, ND,
                  AND Kernel Katcher – Ruthanne Erickson and Amy Crozier – Williston, ND

2^nd place – Super Storage Dog House – Hunter Benjamin – Minot, ND,

INNOVATION IN ENERGY – The Flip Frame – Ashley Fagerland – Williston, ND

INNOVATION IN TECHNOLOGY – Helmet Airbag – Alex Harris – Wilton, ND

The inventions and business ideas were judged by an independent panel of volunteers from the Minot Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) under the direction of Dr. Lowell Latimer.

Marketplace for Kids is a unique educational program offering encouragement for developing young entrepreneurs. It provides young people with a forum to present and explain their projects which are demonstrating entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity.
