Creating a basic webpage should take you between 30 minutes and an hour. Each link below will open a video clip of Trey Welstad explaining the step.

For this guide, you will need website design software called SeaMonkey.

Opportunities for Website Designers
According the United States government, the outlook for website designers is great:

"Computer scientists and database administrators [including website developers] are projected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next decade. Strong employment growth combined with a limited supply of qualified workers will result in excellent employment prospects for this occupation and a high demand for their skills." - Bureau of Labor Statistics

The pay isn't half-bad either! Website designers and administrators can earn between $47,000 and $74,750 per year or between $23.50 and $37.50 per hour! Read more about this and other exciting computer jobs.

Using a Website as Your Project
You can use your web page as a great start to your Marketplace for Kids project! Almost every product and business today has a website. Websites make it so that people from all over the world can find information about your product or business whenever they want!

Some ideas:
  • Create a website explaining a product you have invented, complete with an order form. Then, print these pages off and attached them to your project board.

  • Create a "virtual business." Your virtual business could be a website that "sells" books or rare antiques. Create a page for each product and explain how people could use your website to order these products.

  • You could also create a business that makes websites for other businesses or organizations. You can come up with how you can create websites for other people, how much you can charge and what types of features you would offer.
